Newark FFA members attend the Agriculture Mechanics Career Development Event (CDE).

The Newark FFA Ag Mechanics team placed 3rd in the Section 7 contest. The Ag Mechanics Career Development Event consists of 5 divisions: Welding, Carpentry, Surveying, Electrical, and Small Engines. Individuals from the Newark FFA that placed in the event include:
Kendall Sigmond placed 5th in the welding division.
Levi Jager placed 5th in the carpentry division.
Josh Michealson placed 6th in the surveying division.
Skyler Hagen placed 1st in the electrical division.
Garren Schmidt placed 4th in the small engines division.

The five part event provides recognition for students with agricultural mechanics skills. Specific hands on activities involving welding, building rafters, using a hand level and target rod, electrical wiring of three circuits, and diagnosis of small engine repairs as well as a test in each area allow students to sharpen problem solving skills related to Ag Mechanics. Each series also includes a tool identification test of up to 25 tools.

The Section 7 Ag Mechanics CDE was held at LaSalle-Peru High School on March 23rd.
Skyler Hagen will now represent Newark FFA Chapter at the state competition in May.
